‘All the romance of filmmaking is gone’: filmmaker Woody Allen has hinted he has made his last film.

Woody Allen (88) has again indicated that he could retire from the film business. The filmmaker explained that after the release of his new film “A Stroke of Luck” (originally “Coup De Chance”), he was not sure whether he would be behind the camera again.

“Air Mail” said the 88-year-old when askede whether the thriller, a British-French co-production, will be his last film: “I’m undecided.” Allen added: “I don’t want to go out and raise money. That’s too much of a hassle for me. But if someone came up and called and said we wanted to support the film, then I would seriously consider it. I probably wouldn’t have that Willpower to say no because I have so many ideas.”

Woody Allen has been talking about ending his career for a long time

“A Stroke of Luck,” the director’s 50th film, premiered at the 2023 Venice Film Festival. Back then, too, Woody Allen, who was one of the most controversial guests at the event given the serious allegations that his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow (38) continues to make against him, made very similar comments about a possible end to his career.

The film was released in cinemas in the USA at the beginning of April. “I don’t care whether I’m expelled in this country or not,” Allen now told “Air Mail.” Once he’s done it, he doesn’t pursue it anymore. “The whole business has changed, and not in an appealing way. The whole romance of filmmaking has disappeared.”

The director’s career of successful films such as “Hannah and Her Sisters” and “Midnight in Paris” has suffered in recent years due to allegations made by his adopted daughter Dylan Farrow. The HBO documentary “Allen v. Farrow” was released in 2021 and addresses the allegations of abuse. The director has always denied the allegations. Several authorities investigated the allegations in the 1990s and determined at the time that no abuse had taken place.
