Women’s economy in the old town: cordiality in the middle of the city – Munich

They have known each other for more than 30 years – 32 to be exact. Dana Baehr and Sonja Kerkez met through mutual friends in Bad Tölz. Over the years they have become friends, best friends to be precise. In the meantime, they also lived together, and because both have been working in the catering industry for ages, the question came up at some point: Why don’t we actually open a pub together?

That’s why the Weiberwirtschaft has been in Tal 43 since the summer of 2014. The name was chosen “because we’re two funny women ourselves,” explains Baehr. You quickly notice that there is a lot of laughter in the Weiberwirtschaft, and the majority of the guests also come to chat with “Dana and Sonja”. Baehr and Kerkez are innkeepers who show how much they enjoy being around people.

While chatting with the two, you can let yourself be taken care of from the extensive drinks menu: In addition to various spritz variations with ginger, cranberry or rhubarb (each 9.80 euros), there is a huge selection of gin creations. The Monaco Gin & Tea is served with tea aromas and strawberries (12.90 euros), the Gin City comes with blueberries (14.90 euros).

The selection of drinks is plentiful.

It’s not cheap, but you get pretty fun evenings in a relaxed atmosphere. “We have a very mixed audience,” says Baehr. Especially at a later hour the guests mingle in the women’s tavern, people wearing suits sometimes sit next to a group of students who have already copied the lecture the next day.

There are around 50 seats inside the Weiberwirtschaft, spread over the front area at the bar and a room at the back of the pub. From 10 p.m., things usually move forward – that’s when the kitchen closes. Because in the restaurant at the Isartor there is not only a lot to drink, but also to eat: the menu includes pub classics such as currywurst with fries (12.90 euros) or cheeseburgers (13.90 euros).

At the same time, there are in-house creations such as the favorite dishes of the two hostesses: “Sonjas Liebling” consists of a beetroot carpaccio with goat’s cream cheese wrapped in bacon, optionally with shrimp, Dana prefers a warm Patros (cow’s milk cheese) on leaf spinach with fried onions. “I just really like eating it,” explains Baehr.

Later in the day, it can get pretty crowded in the Weiberwirtschaft, with people standing close together around the bar. The service staff are nevertheless unflappable and remain calm and friendly, even when they are busy with a tray full of wine spritzers through the crowd. If you can’t find a seat inside the bar on such evenings, you can sit outside. There you sit under historical archways – and you can calmly observe from outside what’s going on in the pub of the two best friends Dana and Sonja.
