Women’s DFB Cup: Wolfsburg is in the final after 9-0 against Essen – Sport

With a goal festival, defending champions VfL Wolfsburg reached the DFB Cup final for the tenth time in a row. The record winners defeated outsiders SGS Essen 9-0 (3-0) in the semifinals and have now been unbeaten in the favorite competition for 49 games. Champions Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt will determine the opponent for the final on May 9th on Easter Sunday (3:45 p.m., ARD).

The ex-Essen player Vivien Endemann with a hat-trick (37th/51st/82nd minute), Jule Brand (14th), Ewa Pajor (16th), Dominique Janssen (66th), an own goal by Emely Joester (70th) , Riola Xhemaili (83rd) and Svenja Huth (89th) ensured the overwhelming success. The ten-time cup winner kept his last chance for the title alive a week after the bitter defeat in the league summit against FC Bayern (0:4).

With anger in their stomachs, but without DFB captain Alexandra Popp, who had a knee injury, the merciless VfL got off to a perfect start in front of 2,889 fans. National player Brand first scored with a header and also scored a goal in the fourth cup game of the season. Shortly afterwards, top scorer Pajor successfully finished from close range. The sixth-placed team from the Ruhr area in the Bundesliga simply made too many mistakes.

After one of these in the build-up to the game by Jacqueline Meißner, Endemann, who moved from SGS to Wolfsburg in the summer, secured the preliminary decision with her first goal before the break. The super series continued: The Wolves suffered their last cup defeat in November 2013. In the round of 16, VfL lost 1-0 to 1. FFC Frankfurt (now Eintracht).
