Kamasi Washington in an interview about the new album “Fearless Movement” – Culture

Kamasi Washington, the world’s most amazing jazz musician, explains the moment at which music stops being about skill and what still gives him hope in today’s election-weary America.

It’s been nine years now the saxophonist Kamasi Washington With his monumental triple album “The Epic” he gave the then still timid jazz enthusiasm of a new generation a boost. Three years later another monster album called “Heaven and Earth” followed. In between a few EPs with film and exhibition music and the group Dinner Party with Terrace Martin. Now his new album “Fearless Movement” (Young) is released. At 86 minutes, it’s short by its standards (“The Epic” clocked in at 173), but it’s definitely an improvement. The music still thrives on its accessible mix of spiritual jazz, funk and politics. The swings in calm and ecstasy are, as always, enormous.
