Women’s Champions League | The great feat: Paris FC dominates Real Madrid (2-1)

Gaëtane Thiney’s Paris FC is definitely a team of exploits! In front of nearly 11,000 people (record attendance) present at the Charléty stadium, Sandrine Soubeyrand’s players once again achieved a great performance in the Women’s Champions League this Thursday evening, this time against Real Madrid (2-1).

Paris FC’s goals were scored early in the match, by the inevitable Julie Dufour (4th) and Thiney (6th). Danish striker Caroline Moller reduced the gap in the second half (54th). In vain: thanks to their first victory in 3 matches in Group D, the Parisiennes are back in the race for qualification before their trip next Wednesday to Madrid.

Dufour-Thiney, winning duo

After two disappointing losses against BK Häcken and Chelsea in the competition, the Paris FC players quickly took matters into their own hands at Charléty. In the first situation of the Parisiennes, Julie Dufour took advantage of a weak intervention from captain Ivana Andrés to enter the area and mystify Misa Rodríguez with a powerful left shot into the top corner (1-0, 4th).

Real Madrid had no time to breathe: a few seconds later, Gaëtane Thiney took advantage of a breakthrough from Mathilde Bourdieu to surprise Misa again with a nice outside right (2-0, 6th). Olga Carmona’s teammates then fell back considerably before taking advantage of a hand fault from Julie Soyer to believe it again. But the defender who gave victory to Spain in the final of the last World Cup saw her penalty saved with authority by Chiamaka Nnadozie (28th).

“This PSG has not been this far from the European elite for ten years”

The public came in large numbers to Charléty

Weakened after the break by a goal scored by Caroline Moller following a great breakthrough from Hayley Raso (2-1, 54th), the Paris FC players gave in but did not break. If Claudia Zornoza found Chiamaka Nnadozie’s crossbar with a beautiful lobbed shot (74th), Louna Ribadeira came close to the apotheosis with a beautiful shot from the right which mystified Misa at the end of the match (90th +5).

Because the Parisiennes won the match, pushed by a large audience: 10,693 spectators pushed Paris FC to victory. With this first success in the club’s history in the group stage of the Women’s Champions League, Julie Dufour’s team regains 3rd place in Group D from Real Madrid. Before traveling to the Spanish capital next Wednesday for a return leg which promises to be competitive.
