Women civil servants will return to work if security is assured, Taliban say

Afghan women employed in the administration will be able to return to work when security is assured, a spokesperson for the new Taliban regime, Zabihullah Mujahid, told a press conference in Kabul on Tuesday.

“We want them to work, but also for security to be good” for that, he explained, adding that they should stay at home until then.

On Tuesday, the UN warned that respect for women’s rights by the Taliban, in particular access to quality education, is a “red line”.

Since taking power on August 15, the Taliban have been trying to convince the population that they have changed and that their regime will be less brutal than the previous one, between 1996 and 2001. They then imposed an ultra-rigorous version of Islamic law. .
