Woman killed in Damme: Man who had an accident on the A1 under suspicion | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

A 49-year-old man who was rescued from his burning car on the A1 on Friday morning is suspected of killing his ex-partner. The lifeless woman was discovered in Damme.

According to a police spokeswoman, residents called the emergency services to a residential area in Damme (Vechta district) at around 6:10 a.m. The woman lay there on the street. Despite attempts to resuscitate her immediately, the 41-year-old died on site from her injuries. The police are assuming a homicide, said the spokeswoman. The 49-year-old former partner, who comes from the Cloppenburg district, is suspected of committing the crime.

The 49-year-old’s car burned down completely after the accident on the A1.

As the police confirmed to NDR Lower Saxony, the suspect is the driver who had an accident on the A1 near Wildeshausen at around 5:30 a.m. that morning. He had hit a truck in a construction zone with narrow lanes and a speed limit. The car then immediately caught fire. The fire department said two first responders pulled the unconscious driver out of the burning wreckage and took off his clothes, which were also already on fire. The seriously injured 49-year-old was taken to a special clinic by helicopter. The motorway had to be temporarily closed due to the rescue and clean-up work.
