Wolf run over by car in Bavaria again – Bavaria

Another wolf was killed in a collision with a car in Bavaria. As the State Office for the Environment in Augsburg announced on Thursday, this is the fourth wolf that has died in traffic accidents in the Free State since May 2021. The dead animal was discovered at the end of January on Autobahn 6 near Leuchtenberg (Neustadt/Waldnaab district). The young female is said to have been in the Veldensteiner Forst in the border area between Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate.

Only on Wednesday did it become known that the wolf, who was supposed to be shot according to the plans of the authorities in Upper Bavaria, also died in an accident. After killing livestock in Bavaria, the wolf ran to the Czech Republic and was hit by a car there. There are currently four wolf packs and six individual animals in Bavaria. Young animals often travel long distances to find their own territory. On these wanderings, many wolves are run over. Since May 2021, when the current observation period began, around 100 animals have died in traffic accidents nationwide.
