In the weeks leading up to New Year’s Eve, the phone rarely stands still in Silke Gall-Dirscherl’s and her husband Peter Dirscherl’s small animal practice in Forstinning. And a great many of the conversations are very similar: callers asking for advice on how to calm their pet down on that day of the year that usually comes with bright flashes in the sky, stinky smoke and loud bangs. It’s not an easy question, because: “You really can’t give a general answer to that,” says veterinarian Gall-Dirscherl.
