Wise and Contented: The Good Life – Knowledge

The three wise men from the Orient, better known as the Three Wise Men, are part of the fixtures of every nativity play. According to the Bible, the three men followed a star to Bethlehem, where they gave gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh to Mary, Joseph and the baby Jesus, and were no doubt nice to the ox and donkey. Every elementary school child probably knows that much about these three figures from the Gospel of Matthew. But why the gentlemen are now called wise is not really clear. And one can safely formulate the question of how wise the decision is to traipse through the desert after a star to seek out an unknown newborn. But no matter, sometimes you should refrain from asking questions, and at this point another aspect is of interest anyway: Despite the adversities and the danger of a long, dangerous journey through the desert, the Three Wise Men can be imagined as very satisfied people.
