Wiebke Hüster on dog excrement attack: “The act was planned”

Ballet director Marco Goecke rubbed a bag of dog feces on her face at a premiere in Hanover. For dance critic Wiebke Hüster, one thing is certain: the act was planned. In an interview, she explains how Marco Goecke betrayed himself – and why she does not accept his public apology.

Ms. Hüster, the ballet director Marco Goecke smeared you with dog excrement. How did that happen?
I was at the ballet premiere of “Faith – Love – Hope” at the Hanover State Opera. During the break, Mr. Goecke blocked my way on the long, narrow path into the foyer. I could tell from the way he stood in front of me how angry he was. I immediately assumed that it must be about my text, which appeared in the FAZ that day, a slander about his ballet “The Dutch Mountains”. But I stayed calm, thinking: “Okay, then I’ll just talk to him about it.” He said: “Wiebke, what do you even want here?” And I thought to myself: “Huh, since when are we on first-name terms?”
