Why was the fourth season, “Night Country,” so anticipated?

If early fans were impatient (the last season dates back to 2019), they will finally find one of the most captivating detective anthologies of the decade: the first episode of the 4th season of True detectivesubtitled Night countryis finally available on Prime Video (via Le Pass Warner).

Directed by Issa Lopez (They come back, The girl with a thousand names), a “protege” of the great Guillermo del Toro, this new part offers – this is the founding principle of the series – an opposition of styles between its duo of heroes… or rather, and this is a first, of heroines !

After Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson (season 1), Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Vince Vaughn (season 2) then Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff (season 3), they are in fact Jodie Foster and Kali Reis (a former boxer become an actress) who perform Night country.

Alaska to revive the franchise

Will this be enough to get the franchise off the ground again? True detective which, if it had an exciting start (11.9 million viewers per episode in the United States, its attendance even having crashed the HBO streaming platform in 2014), had rather disappointed during the following two seasons?

In any case, the codes which made its success are very present: a pair of antagonistic heroines (Jodie Foster plays a workaholic and Kali Reis a police officer who is a bit “into herself”, but both are marked by tragedies personal), a stressful investigation – eight scientists disappear from a research station –, high suspense and oppressive settings, in this case the polar climate of Alaska.

Imbued with horror and a touch of the paranormal, twilight in the way of Fargo (another series whose sequel is highly anticipated), will this season contain enough audacity and creativity to “relaunch the machine”? Response at the end of six episodes what does this new season mean…
