Why there are too few warning sirens in Bavaria – Bayern

In Bavaria’s towns and communities there are 9,643 functioning sirens to warn the population in the event of a disaster. In the medium term, the Ministry of the Interior sees a need for a good 8,500 new sirens and, in the long term, significantly more in order to be able to cover all built-up areas in the Free State. The cabinet of Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) had also targeted this in a resolution in 2021, at that time there was even talk of a total number of up to 26,000 pieces. In the current situation, it is “not possible across the board” to warn the population about such sound signals. This is what the Ministry of the Interior writes in response to a written request from Johannes Becher (Greens) and to additional questions from the SZ. The answer to the MPs published these days is based on a query in the municipalities.
