Now the number of clinic treatments for Covid 19 patients will probably become an important parameter for people in Germany’s everyday life. The federal government provides this size as an “additional leading indicator” in the assessment of the pandemic. It is not the first time that a parameter suddenly gains importance – and it would not be too surprising if some people get the impression that this pandemic is always giving birth to new measures that are used to justify regulations based on criteria that are difficult to understand . In fact, however, all the variables communicated so far are established measures that have played a role in the assessment and monitoring of infectious diseases for decades.
