Mr. Yang doesn’t seem all that happy about the sudden hype surrounding his grill restaurant. “The police and the fire department come every evening,” reports the restaurateur from the city of Zibo in the east Chinese province of Shandong. “It’s too chaotic to run a business properly.” Around him it’s like a fairground: Hundreds of guests on folding stools devour meat skewers, onlookers walk around between the low tables and film, street musicians play for the guests. “Some influencers even try to shoot promotional videos for beer and wine with me,” says Yang. But he doesn’t do that.
