German media call me “Hasen”, “Hasenin” or “Hasnaim”: Is that racism or stupidity? Anyway: Guys, please try harder, okay?
I recently wrote a text for the SZ about the fact that the Karachi Literature Festival disinvited the German writer Ronya Othmann because a group of activists accused her of “Zionism” and “Islamophobia”. Othmann only described Hamas as a terrorist organization and criticized the distribution of sweets in Berlin as a reaction to their violence on October 7, 2023. In solidarity with my colleague, I also canceled my appearances at the festival. In the printed version, the SZ wrote in the author’s line and in a caption: “Hasnaim Kazim”. Elsewhere: “Ronya Othman”.
