The Berlin police officer Philipp Hohenberger admits in “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” 150,000 euros – and wins the hearts of the audience with his friendly manner. In the end he is overwhelmed.

The three million euro week with changed prize levels on “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” with Günther Jauch actually only knows winners – one of them is the Berlin police officer Philipp Hohenberger. He went home from the quiz show on Friday evening with a total of 150,000 euros – and took a deep look into his family history. In the end, the 31-year-old was in tears.

“Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” candidates are in tears

Hohenberger gambled several times, and finally, with the help of his additional joker, he was able to answer that the commonality between the two athletes, Jochen Rindt and Count Berghe von Trips, was the place of death in Monza. Both lost their lives on the Italian race track. The officer also won the hearts of the audience with his humble and humorous demeanor.

“I come from almost the lowest social class,” he told Jauch after he got out. He grew up alone with his mother and had seven older siblings who had already moved out. “There were days when all we had to eat was a can of noodle soup.” It was a “really hard time”. “I worked a lot to get out of there,” Hohenberger underlined the importance of his win. “I’ve never vacationed abroad. Never. Because I couldn’t afford it.” Apart from a business trip to London, he has never left Germany.

As soon as he talked about it, the police officer fought back tears, but in the end they flowed – and even Günther Jauch was speechless for a moment, while the audience started a long and loud applause. “Many people think that’s really good now,” said the moderator. “That it turned out so well for you in the end – I think we’re really happy for you. Great!”

And Hohenberger? He is now planning a trip far away, to New Zealand to the setting of his favorite film series “Lord of the Rings” – and wants to give his mother “a little joy”.
