Who is Larry the Cat, the cat from 10 Downing Street?

The residence of the English Prime Minister is celebrating an anniversary this Wednesday, October 25: that of Rishi Sunak’s one year at 10 Downing Street. But the real star of the place is Larry the Cat. The feline who lives at the same address has become in just a few years the darling of the British and the darling of the media.

Larry the Cat is even an official employee of the Prime Minister’s Office. His status is “Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office”. Its duties include chasing away mice, welcoming visitors and even inspecting security services. The cat has been in office since September 15, 2011 and has seen five different Prime Ministers.

The cat has even become a political figure in its own right since David Cameron had to explain himself to Parliament to respond to rumors of disagreement with the animal.
