Which cities best respect animals?

In which cities in France are animals best regarded? The L214 association has just established a list of “cities with more than 50,000 inhabitants” which best respect the animal condition or most integrate our animal friends into public spaces. Wasted efforts for those who kill pigeons or serve foie gras at official receptions, they do not have the honors of the top of the ranking.

The prize goes to Grenoble which wins well ahead of Montpellier and Strasbourg neck and neck. Lyon fails at the foot of the podium, tied for fourth place with the town of Pessac, in Gironde.

Around twenty measures scrutinized

Bordeaux comes in sixth position ahead of Nice, Lille and Paris (9th) but none of them achieves 50% of the objectives set by the association. Around twenty measures were scrutinized, such as banning foie gras from pince-fesses or saving the lives of pigeons. But also: “Do the cities have an animal welfare officer? » or “Has the mayor notified the city’s public procurement services of his desire to no longer serve products from farms without access to the open air? “. Or even “Can children who wish eat vegetarian every day in the canteen?” »

“These measures represent a minimum base of actions for any city wishing to improve the condition of animals”, indicates the association, specifying that this classification aims to “encourage” them to become a “city for animals” by the end of the mandate in 2026.
