Where Munich creates space for refugees – Munich

There are still enough accommodations, hundreds of beds are unused. But because more people are now arriving here again, the city is already building new neighborhoods. There is protest in the affected districts – the locations are unfairly distributed.

The construction site is near a cemetery. In Aubing, on Freihamer Weg, the city is currently building container accommodation. It is scheduled to open in January, when 150 refugees will be able to move in there. Just a few months later, two more facilities are scheduled to go into operation – each barely two kilometers from the cemetery: accommodation for 330 refugees on Hans-Dietrich-Genscher-Straße at the Freiham educational campus and a quarters with 400 beds in the commercial area on the Centa- Hafenbrädl Street. “These three accommodations are a huge challenge for a newly emerging district,” says Sebastian Kriesel.
