What would a New Year’s Eve be without Miss Sophie and her butler James? The sketch, which was recorded by NDR in Hamburg-Lokstedt in 1963, has entertained generations of viewers for decades. In 1988 it was in the Guinness Book of Records as the most repeated TV production. The fascination of “Dinner for One” has ensured that many dialect versions of the sketch are now also shown on New Year’s Eve – in Low German, Hessian or Kölsch.
