WhatsApp leads new feature – self-erasing messages get a major update

WhatsApp: The popular messenger is expanding its function for self-deleting messages

WhatsApp only introduced self-erasing messages this year. So far, however, these settings had to be activated individually for each chat. Now the popular messenger is also introducing the self-deleting messages as a standard option and is also adding additional time periods.

Not everything that you send to friends and acquaintances should actually be documented for all eternity. The Snapchat app became famous for the fact that messages and photos can no longer be accessed after 24 hours by default. WhatsApp recently followed suit and offered self-erasing messages for photos and videos, and texts were later also offered. That changes with a new update.

In particular, sensitive messages with passwords or accesses shouldn’t stay online forever in messengers. With other content, too, one or the other user could be happy if his messages are automatically deleted after a certain period of time. What was only possible for individual chats with WhatsApp for a long time now also works with the standard setting. Facebook boss Mark Zuckerberg announced this in a post.

WhatsApp: Self-erasing messages possible as standard and in groups

An article published by WhatsApp explains in more detail what the new feature means for WhatsApp users. The new option applies by default to all new chats if users activate it once in the settings. This works under the privacy settings directly in the app. The setting no longer has to be set again individually in each chat.

The option for newly created groups is also introduced. Here, too, WhatsApp users can choose a period of time after which messages should be deleted independently.

WhatsApp also adds two more new periods after which the messages are automatically deleted. So far this has been the case after a week. Options for one day (24 hours) and three months (90 days) have now been added. So WhatsApp users have more choices when deciding when to leave their messages.
