February 2020, one year of parental leave was over, and Marina Bernardi was back in the office, ready to pick up where she left off. The interior designer immediately took on a large project for a student residence. A month later: the first lockdown. Her one-year-old son’s daycare center closed and Bernardi and her husband had to switch to the home office from one day to the next to take turns looking after the child. “My boss wasn’t good at it,” says the 35-year-old. She does not want to give her real name publicly because she fears for her job.
