Because he wanted to bring his family to Germany out of fear of advancing Russian troops in Ukraine, a Ukrainian in Bavaria has to fear criminal consequences. The 49-year-old tried to bring his wife and three children into the Federal Republic of Germany in Furth im Wald (Cham district) on the border with the Czech Republic, the federal police said on Monday.
The family told officials that their wife and children wanted to stay in Germany longer. According to the Federal Police, a visa would have been necessary for this. Only for short stays of up to 90 days do Ukrainians not have to show this in addition to their passport. The federal police therefore reported the father of the family for smuggling in foreigners. His wife and children are being investigated for attempted unauthorized entry.
The 46-year-old has applied for asylum for herself and her children. The wife and children were therefore forwarded to the initial reception center for asylum seekers in Regensburg. The 49-year-old was allowed to take her there after the police measures.
