The affair, revealed by Media, always causes a lot of talk in the corridors of the Nantes University Hospital. During the Christmas holidays, a hidden camera was found by an officer in a mixed changing room, while she was changing. The Nantes hospital, which confirmed the discovery of this “illicit camera”, filed a complaint. Update on the case.
How was this camera discovered?
The scene took place on December 28 in a changing room, reserved for nursing staff in the urology department of the Nantes University Hospital, and closed by a code. While an agent was there to change, she was intrigued by a small red light at the top of a wardrobe. “It was a small GoPro-style camera hidden in a Crocs shoe,” explains Dominique Delahaye, CFDT staff representative at the CHU. This discovery created a big panic in the service, it’s shocking. » The device was immediately turned off and handed over to a hospital manager, who herself handed it over to a security agent.
“The agents came to see us the next day, and they were shocked,” reports Marinette Aubry, deputy treasurer of the FO union. They wondered if they had really been filmed, since when, and if these images would end up on social networks. » The Nantes University Hospital confirms the discovery of this “illicit camera”.
What action was taken in this matter?
According to the hospital management, “a complaint was immediately filed on behalf of the CHU and the agents of the department concerned were supported in their process of filing a complaint on an individual basis”. According to the CFDT, staff were asked not to publicize the matter too much even though some of them had already filed a complaint on their own.
“A suggestion was made to the agents to consult an occupational doctor or a psychologist and the human resources department also provided support in the process of declaring a work accident,” indicates the CHU, which specified this Tuesday that a “report to the public prosecutor is in progress”.
What is the current state of mind in the service?
According to the unions, “a climate of suspicion”, even “psychosis”, reigns today in this service, where men are a very small minority. “Everyone looks at each other a little askance,” says Dominique Delahaye. Was this camera placed there to steal footage of people undressing? Had whoever put it there had their locker stolen? Will we find the culprit?…. »
What is certain is that the affair has relaunched the debate on diversity of locker rooms, very common in hospitals due to lack of space. After this incident, the men and women of the department were separated. But the unions hope that all CHU staff will each have their own privacy in the future, after the move to the future new premises on the island of Nantes.
