It’s a unpublished map that reveals the Parisian urban planning workshop (Apur). It makes it possible to visualize the frequentation of the Parisian sidewalks, trampled underfoot by “3.5 million people […] every day,” says Apur. Unsurprisingly, the density of use matches the tourist areas of the capital, such as “Montmartre, the Champs-Elysées, the Champ-de-Mars”. The spaces around the Parisian stations are also in high demand, such as the shopping streets in each arrondissement.
Apur also considered the width of the 2,300 km of sidewalks, in connection with their accessibility for people with reduced mobility. It thus notes that “16% of these sidewalks (366 km) are less than 1.8 m wide and are therefore not yet adapted to the recommendations of the Road Accessibility Plan and the Development of Public Spaces”. 5% of sidewalks are even less than 1.4m wide, which can be a problem for people in wheelchairs.
