This alert concerns Vendée, Charente-Maritime, Landes, Gironde and Pyrénées-Atlantiques.
Several other departments are placed on yellow alert for other reasons, such as, for example, risks of strong winds, storms or even heavy rain, with, sometimes, a risk of flooding. The departments concerned are mainly located in the Great West, in the North and in the East of France.
These risks are linked to the Céline depression located on the British Isles: “The associated strong southwest winds generate and maintain strong waves across the entire Atlantic coast and the entrance to the English Channel. An active rainy front extends from the southwest to the northeast of the country,” indicates Météo-France on its website.
The meteorological service has given several precautionary instructions to follow for residents of the departments concerned, such as moving away from watercourses and low points, reaching a high point or sheltering upstairs, and not Do not drive on a submerged road, even partially.
