Were the backgrounds of municipal police officers illegally consulted?

The Toulouse prosecutor’s office indicated on Monday that it had opened an investigation for the alleged illegal use of an official file by the hierarchy of the municipal police of Saint Jory, a town located north of Toulouse. The possible irregular consultation concerns the criminal history processing file (TAJ) to find out about several municipal police officers in the municipality.

The opening of this investigation had been requested a little earlier in the morning by the union Force Ouvrière (FO). His request followed an article in the regional daily The Midi Dispatch on this possible illegal use of the file in 2022, before a decision on the renewal of the authorization to carry weapons for these agents.

FO “scandalized by such actions”

In its press release, FO-public services said it was “scandalized by such actions on the part of agents who are both hierarchical managers and custodians of public authority”. “Municipal police officers carry out their duties in a particularly difficult context, in particular due to the perpetual expansion of their missions. Third security force in the country, their prerogatives and their level of responsibilities remain to this day too little recognized, ”continues the union.

“This is why we cannot accept that the profession be sullied by such acts, however marginal they may be,” he concludes.
