Werder has signed Ole Werner as his successor for Markus Anfang. For Werner’s move, the Bremen allegedly pay a six-digit transfer fee.
Now it’s official: Ole Werner takes over the coaching position at Werder. The Bremen announced on Sunday afternoon. The 33-year-old should lead his first training session with the green-whites on Monday afternoon. Werder will then officially introduce its new coach. “Ole is a young, exciting and very good coach whose idea of playing football suits Werder very well,” said Werder sports director Frank Baumann on “werder.de”.
He absolutely wants to go with us on our way to building a young, developable team. He has worked successfully as head coach in Kiel, knows the 2nd division and, as a North German, will quickly find his way around Bremen.

Contract term supposedly until 2023
Since the resignation of former Werder coach Markus Anfang, the 33-year-old has been considered the top favorite to coach the Green-Whites. “In the conversations it was immediately noticeable that both sides had the same view of playing and working,” said Werner. “That convinced me that Werder was the right job for me.” Patrick Kohlmann will support him in this , his co-trainer from his time at Holstein Kiel. There should be no further changes in the Bremen coaching team.
However, Werder did not provide any information on the duration of the contract and a possible transfer fee. According to “Bild”, the 33-year-old signed a contract until 2023. In addition, Werder pay a transfer fee in the low six-figure range for his commitment.

Werner began his coaching career at his youth club in Kiel. He worked his way up to the second division team, which he took over as head of the team in September 2019. In his first full season as head coach, he led the “Storks” to third place in the table and into the semi-finals of the DFB Cup. In the following Bundesliga relegation, the Kiel only narrowly failed at 1. FC Köln. After a false start in the current second division season, Werner resigned from his position around two months ago.
