Weilheimer do without bypass – Bavaria

After all, the residents of Weilheim had a choice of eight variants, which were requested or rejected by five different citizens’ initiatives, as a possible bypass around their city. In the end, the majority of them spoke out against any bypass and thus finally settled the dispute over the route that had lasted for years.

The Upper Bavarian district town, which is located on the busy B2 between Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, had voting documents delivered to around 20,000 citizens over the age of 16 and received about half of them completed within four weeks. Accordingly, 54.6 percent are against any bypass. The vote is not legally binding, but Mayor Markus Loth and the city council had previously made it clear that they wanted to adopt the result as the city’s position. Against the will of the city, however, the State Baumt, which is based in Weilheim itself, will not be pursuing its plans any further.

A first vote in 2020 was canceled after errors were found in the enclosed information sheet from the building authority. Before the new vote, the authority sorted out a tunnel right through the center as uneconomical.
