This week, the heat wave continues on 3/4 of the country until Friday. From Friday and especially Saturday, a marked deterioration is expected with locally strong and violent thunderstorms announcing the end of this unprecedented heat wave in its intensity, duration and lateness.
The huge heat dome filled with scorching air blocked over France at the start of the week will be gradually jostled by ocean air. Between Friday and Saturday, temperatures will drop with the return of rains and thunderstorms.
A hot start to the week
This Tuesday will be a hot day again with crushing heat, trying over ¾ of the country, except in the northwest. The 40°C will still be reached and sometimes exceeded locally south of the Loire, between Occitanie and the lower Rhône valley. North of the Loire, temperatures rise 1 to 2°C in the afternoon, but the heat remains relatively bearable, especially along the English Channel and the North Sea with the breeze.
Wednesday and Thursday will be the hottest days of this heat wave and also of the summer. But the air mass will begin to stabilize over the country with the retreat of the heat dome towards central Europe. The arrival of Atlantic air will cause thunderstorms in the northeast of the country while the heat wave will continue to rage south of the Loire.
Risk of heavy thunderstorms from the middle of the week
THURSDAY, the weather will become very heavy during the day. In the evening, thunderstorms will develop from the southwest to the eastern borders, accompanied by punctually strong phenomena and preceded by scorching heat in the afternoon. In the back, that is to say on the neighboring regions of the English Channel, the weather will be calmer and cooler.
Fridaythe heat wave will begin to end, but the atmosphere will still be hot, unstable with showers, thunderstorms from the southwest to the eastern borders and above all cool, except between Provence Côte d’Azur and Corsica .
From heat wave to autumn
Regarding the temperatures, they are exceptionally high for the end of August in 3/4 of the country until the middle of the week, at record levels between Monday and Thursday. On Friday, the temperature will begin to drop, but the feeling will become very heavy and tropical before the thunderstorms. Next Saturday, it could be relatively cool over 2/3 of the country with the arrival of fresh air from the British Isles. In places, the fall between Thursday and Saturday could reach nearly 15°C. Only the extreme south-east would retain very hot weather.
