News Weather

After a week marked by great mildness and often sunny weather, the weather conditions are changing radically for this Palm Sunday weekend with the return of wetter and significantly cooler weather. Showers and sleet will be on the program in the northern and eastern regions and it will be the big return of snow at low altitudes on our mountains.

Key weather points for the weekend :

– temperature drop of 7 to 10°C between Friday afternoon and Saturday afternoon

– often cool, humid and windy atmosphere, requiring you to cover up well

– sleet on the northern and northeastern plains with snow at low altitude in the mountains

– episode of strong wind in the Mediterranean: gusts between 60 and 90 km/h

Saturday: return of rain and showers in the cool

A disturbance will finish crossing the east and south of the country, bringing rain in the morning from the Pyrenees to the eastern borders. Snow will fall from 1000 m on average on the mountains. Near the Mediterranean, clouds will dominate with a few brief showers. The mistral and tramontane which will rise will quickly chase away the bad weather. In the afternoon, the disturbance will evacuate from the east and a trailing sky will dominate over 3/4 of the country with clearings and cloudy periods which may be accompanied by showers. We can talk about the famous sleet of March in the northeast since precipitation may be in the form of hail or sleet. Showers will remain rare near the Atlantic coast, closest to the anticyclone.

Temperatures in the morning will show 4 to 12°C for minimums. In the afternoon, they will generally be between to peak at 7 to 14°C for the maximums in the afternoon, with still peaks at 20°C between PACA and Corsica.

Sunday: improvement from the west, more showers in the north and east

The weather will remain unstable in the north and east with sunny spells, cloudy periods and showers. Snow will fall from 600 to 800 m in the morning on the eastern hills and the Massif Central. In the west, weather conditions will improve quickly under the effect of an anticyclonic surge. After rare morning showers, the sun will take over in the afternoon. In the south-east, the sun will prevail all day but the mistral and the tramontane will blow between 60 and 80 km/h, locally 90 km/h on the Hyères islands. Also note a strong westerly wind on the extremities of Corsica.

In the morning, we expect a minimum of 3 to 8°C and a maximum of 6 to 15°C in the afternoon. We will be 1 to 2°C below seasonal norms.

What outfit to wear outdoors this weekend?

The winter coat, scarf and hat will come out of the closet in the north and east of France. A lighter coat or raincoat will suffice in the west and southwest. To the southeast, you can leave the raincoat at home.

What activities should you prioritize this weekend?

Difficult to sustainably enjoy the garden or outdoor activities on Saturday with the exception of regions close to the Atlantic and the Mediterranean. If you like walks in the fresh air, you will be served but you will have to juggle between showers if you are in the north and east. Cinema, board games will be part of the celebration… On Sunday, the weather conditions will be more favorable and you will be able to enjoy outdoor activities in the west and south 3/4 of the country, but with a very cool atmosphere in the morning.
