A storm field will be particularly noticeable on Tuesday in the northern half of Germany. We look at the forecast wind peaks.

On Tuesday we are between a high pressure area near the Bay of Biscay and a low pressure area over the Baltic Sea. In Germany, an air pressure of 1020 hPa (hectopascal) in Baden-Württemberg is compared to an air pressure of 995 hPa in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. This results in a relatively large pressure difference of 25 hPa. Since the strength of the current increases with the pressure gradient, we will have very windy to stormy weather on Tuesday. The largest pressure gradient and the associated storm field are concentrated in the northern half of the country.

Our figure shows a model forecast for the maximum speed the wind is expected to reach in gusts on Tuesday. Stormy gusts (wind force 8) can be expected from Münsterland and Rhineland to Western Pomerania, Brandenburg and Saxony. In some areas there is a risk of individual squalls (wind force 9), the same applies towards the North Sea and in the mountains. Heavy squalls (wind force 10) can occur in the upper mountains and directly on the North Sea coast. Further south the wind remains weaker. Stormy gusts and squalls will remain limited to the central mountain ranges and strong to stiff gusts are still expected in the lowlands (wind force 6 to 7).
