Black ice and slush caused numerous accidents in Germany over the weekend. And large parts of the country can also expect wintry weather conditions at the beginning of the week. The German Weather Service (DWD) is warning of freezing wetness and fresh snow and slippery conditions in some parts of Germany on Monday. According to the DWD warning situation report from Monday morning, heavy snowfall can be expected in the central low mountain ranges. In some areas there is also snowfall in the middle and south of Germany and continuous rain in the west. Light frost and slippery conditions are to be expected in some areas. In the Black Forest and on the North Sea coast, however, it will be stormy. According to the DWD, the maximum temperatures on Monday will be between zero and six degrees, and on Tuesday it will be cooler at minus two to plus four degrees.

“There are still indications that the current weather phase is a longer winter episode,” DWD meteorologist Felix Dietzsch told the German Press Agency on Sunday. Problems caused by snow, ice and slippery conditions should be taken into account during morning rush hour, warned the DWD.

The maps below show the current weather events.

In the gallery: One month before Christmas, winter arrived in Germany. At least above 600 meters there is snow – and many people were able to enjoy that, especially at the weekend.
