Weather: heatwave red vigilance will be lifted this Friday morning

Seventeen departments of the country remain on heat wave red alert until Friday August 25 at 6 a.m. while 60 departments will be on heat wave and storm orange vigilance.

The end of the heatwave red alert is looming. After a start to the week marked by very hot weather, Meteo France confirmed that the heatwave red vigilance will be lifted this Friday at 6 a.m.

Until this lifting, 17 departments remain this Thursday evening on heatwave red alert: Ardèche, Ain, Aveyron, Drôme, Gard, Haute-Garonne, Gers, Isère, Loire, Haute-Loire, Lot, Lot-et-Garonne, Lozère, Rhône, Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne and finally Vaucluse. At 6 a.m. Friday, the departments concerned will go into orange vigilance.

Note that Wednesday was the hottest day recorded after August 15 in France, with a national thermal indicator of 27.5 ° C, beating the records for this period of the year established the two previous days, announced Meteo France.

“We are on a series of three hottest days recorded after August 15 across France”, underlined Lauriane Batté, climatologist within the public establishment.

Storms to be expected

At the same time, 60 departments will remain on the alert orange heat wave or storms.

Stormy passages are expected overnight from Thursday to Friday. These storms will be accompanied by hail, heavy rain, but also gusts of wind that can reach 80 to 100 km / h, according to Météo France.

In the afternoon, Friday, a new stormy wave should hit Auvergne before reaching the Rhône Valley, the Lyon region, Burgundy and the north-east of the country.
