In Germany, companies and citizens are very distrustful of each other. That prevents a constructive discourse. Anyone who wants to change the economy must not turn their back on it.

It’s back, the battle of the blocks that seemed to have long ended. First the financial crisis brought it back to life. Now it’s Corona. The pandemic has revived an enemy image: society versus “the economy”. Health versus the pursuit of profit. Common good versus lobbying power. Good versus evil. It is the old song of the economy as the enemy of the good, a song that is particularly popular in Europe’s number one economy.
