“We became addicted to the car”. Supporters of a more peaceful, less congested and less polluted city, environmentalists have already announced their intention to ban diesel models from Lyon by 2026. A measure that should affect nearly 369,000 cars (nearly 70 % of households) as well as 100,000 heavy goods vehicles and light commercial vehicles since vehicles, equipped with a Crit’Air 2 sticker, should also be part of the lot.
The contours of the future ZFE, a low-emission zone (which only concerns Lyon, Villeurbanne and Caluire for the moment), must be further refined. This is the reason why the Métropole de Lyon has just launched a major consultation on the subject. A consultation that will last 5 months.
A consultation until February 5
The inhabitants of the metropolis and those who work there are invited to give their opinion until February 5 on the perimeter of this area to be extended, on the possible alternatives of mobility, on the necessary support for the owners of the vehicles concerned.
Aware that “an EPZ generates constraints that should be anticipated”, the president of the Métropole de Lyon Bruno Bernard wished “to offer each and everyone the possibility of giving their opinion and formulating proposals” so that “The Lyon ZFE leaves no one without a solution”.
5 public meetings and questionnaires
“The consultation that opens should allow us to explore the field of possibilities for all the profiles of territories: dense urban districts or suburbs, large groups or peri-urban subdivisions, municipalities of Greater Lyon and neighboring territories”, he continues, indicating “Believe in collective intelligence”.
The measure is however likely to provoke strong reactions. The consultation will take place in several forms: public meetings, workshops, questionnaires. A dedicated website (jeparticipe.grandlyon.com) must make it possible to centralize all the information and reports. The first of five public meetings is scheduled for September 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
