Wave of violence: nine bodies hung on a bridge in Mexico – panorama

The police discovered the bodies of ten men in central Mexico. Nine of the victims were hanging on a bridge in the village of San Pedro Piedra Gorda, as the government of the state of Zacatecas announced on Thursday. Another dead person was lying on the street below. The provincial government condemned the act as a “heinous crime”. The police are looking for those responsible. The victims were taken to the forensic medical service for identification.

Zacatecas is currently experiencing a wave of violence. Just a few days ago, a police chief and two police officers from the city of Loreto were kidnapped and later found dead. According to the media, the Sinaloa cartel, the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel and the Los Talibanes cartel are vying for control of illegal business in the region.

Nearly 100 homicides are currently recorded every day across Mexico. Much of the violence is caused by cartels and gangs involved in drug smuggling, extortion and gasoline theft. Many have relationships with politics and security forces.
