Today it will probably be really crowded again on the freeways in the north. In addition, many construction sites impede traffic.

The ADAC and the police are expecting heavy return travel today. This is the traditional day of departure for Pentecost vacationers, it was said in advance. Already on Friday and Saturday there were numerous problems on the motorways and in the trains. The bottlenecks on the roads will probably remain the same: Elbtunnel, Emstunnel and Bremer Kreuz. It is likely to be particularly crowded on the return routes from Norderney: The Frisia shipping company has planned 22 departures from the island for today because thousands of visitors to the White Sands Festival are going home.

Some long traffic jams on Saturday

There was already a lot going on on the autobahns on Saturday. On the A7, for example, between Hanover and Hamburg, traffic between the Walsrode triangle and the Soltau-Ost junction was backed up for up to 20 kilometers. A police spokeswoman in the Heidekreis said that heavy traffic and construction sites were the cause. On the Autobahn 31, traffic came to a standstill in front of the Ems tunnel near Leer. Drivers had to wait around 45 minutes there. There were also major traffic jams and slow-moving traffic on the A1 near Bramsche and at the Bremer Kreuz as well as on the A7 between the Seesen/Harz and Northeim-West junctions.

46 construction sites – alone on Lower Saxony’s autobahns

It is also getting tight on the motorways at the moment due to the many construction sites: the ADAC counts 46 on the motorways in Lower Saxony alone. For example, construction is taking place at the Maschener Kreuz just outside of Hamburg. Numerous roads in the Hanseatic city are also closed on Sunday due to the Ironman triathlon. In Schleswig-Holstein, the ADAC warned of obstructions on the A24 connection between Bad Segeberg-Süd and Leezen. There is also an increased risk of traffic jams on the A1 between Reinfeld and Lübeck-Zentrum and between Neustadt and Pansdorf and a little further on the Fehmarnsund Bridge. The bridge is currently being renovated by Deutsche Bahn, because of the construction site, drivers are only allowed to cross it at ten kilometers per hour.

Nine euro ticket? ADAC considers the car to be more practical

That many people leave the car and instead this Use the nine-euro ticket, at least not according to the ADAC. If you take a regional train, you usually have to change trains to get to your holiday destination. For families who travel with a lot of luggage, the car is simply more practical, says the automobile club. Deutsche Bahn, on the other hand, expects full trains on the connections towards the coast – and wants to use additional wagons on some routes.

Change of bed on Saturday

On Saturday, the traditional change of beds was due in many holiday regions. Heath, Harz and the coast are more in demand this year than before the Corona pandemic. While Lower Saxony and Bremen add a school-free day to the long Pentecost weekend, schoolchildren in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania have no classes for the entire week. Many families use this time for a short vacation.
