Watzmann: Long line on the mountain – Bavaria

The municipality of Ramsau wants to develop an alpine pasture area on the Watzmann with water, sewage, electricity and data cables. But the exact course of the route is disputed, the Bund Naturschutz has announced a lawsuit.

Everything flows, Heraclitus is said to have once said, but he has concealed one thing: Before water, sewage, electricity and data, for example, can flow properly, funding often has to flow first. At the Blaueishütte on the Hochkalter in Berchtesgadener Land, for example, there has been electricity and a sewer connection for a good ten years because the state has subsidized the laying of the necessary lines from the Hintersee up the mountain with some money. Only the construction of water pipes was not subsidized at that time, so there were none. In the meantime, however, the Free State has reimbursed 75 percent of the costs for this from its mountain hut program, and so the municipality of Ramsau now wants to add the water pipe. It can be as simple as that, but it can be even easier.

The community would like to develop the Kührointalm am Watzmann with all four areas at once, of course with the current three-quarter funding. But since she has not come to an agreement with the Bund Naturschutz. Its district group in Berchtesgadener Land discussed the project from the start, but did not get through with all the demands and has therefore, according to its own statements, now filed a lawsuit against the approval notice from the district office.

The main point of contention is whether the lines should be buried under the forest road, which the BN sees as easier and, above all, more compatible with the landscape, or under the hiking trail, which would result in a shorter route that the community hopes would also be cheaper and faster to lay. which also handles grouse, black grouse and hazel grouse better.

In any case, all the lines have to be deep and frost-proof in the mountain, because the Kührointalm is also in operation in winter, especially in the training center of the federal police. The administration of the Berchtesgaden National Park, where all this is happening, does not want to accept the planned expansion. The four lines there on the Alm could later have branches and continuations to the Watzmannhaus, which was not allowed to be expanded a few years ago because the BN had complained. The association has declared that it does not want to accept a costly cable route all the way up there. There is no forest road to dig into at the Watzmannhaus anyway.
