Water of the Pegnitz: The missing good is back – Bavaria

In view of a decorative photo that the photographer titled “a water wheel stands in the morning sun on the Pegnitz”, something has to be confessed at this point. And this is what it is: Recently, like every morning, you passed the famous Fleischbrücke in Nuremberg over the Pegnitz, which is of the same construction as the Rialto Bridge in Venice, and below you saw almost nothing of what is splashing so comfortably in this heart-refreshing picture. Water? There was practically none left. First of all, it must be confessed that nothing at all was known about this fact before. But secondly, and this is crucial, when crossing the bridge, the obvious thought did not dominate, namely: Oh my God, the suffering of the world has come to this, now the Pegnitz is already running dry! Instead, the dominant thought was how to explain this to a newspaper reader: Suddenly the Pegnitz is empty – and before that there wasn’t a word about it in the paper. But then everything was very different. Corrective action, so the water was dammed. Rarely has one been so happy about a construction site.
