was a TGV the target of firearms fire upon its arrival in Marseille?

A TGV arrived at Saint-Charles station in Marseille on Wednesday evening shortly before 9:30 p.m. with impacts which, in all likelihood, would have been caused by “a firearm of which we do not know the caliber”, we learned this Thursday from police source, confirming information from RTL.

“However, there is no certainty that it is a firearm, adds the police, because it also happens that TGVs and trains are the target of impact of stones or other projectiles.” This was the case for example on Monday with a TER, causing delays.

No one was injured and all passengers were able to disembark normally on arrival.

Starry bay window but not pierced

The investigation was entrusted to the Departmental Security of Public Security. Additional findings were underway this Thursday morning to establish whether it is indeed an impact caused by a firearm. For its part, the SNCF refuses to comment, specifying “that a police investigation is underway”.

To AFP, SNCF Voyageurs spokesperson, Cyrille Durand, however clarified that “the impact was observed on a bay window, which was starred but was not pierced”. The incident was observed at the exit of the tunnel, shortly before entering Saint-Charles station. The traffic was interrupted for 1h30, in order to let the investigators intervene on the tracks.
