Ukraine reports serious attacks by Russia on many regions of the country. The main target was the infrastructure, but residential buildings and schools were also hit. Sirens wailed across the country for hours.

Russia carried out massive missile strikes against targets in almost all parts of Ukraine overnight and in the early hours of the morning. There were impacts in several regions, as the local authorities announced. There was a nationwide air alert for more than two hours. According to the Ukrainian Air Force, several Tupolev long-range Tu-95MS bombers had previously taken off from Olenya airfield in northern Russia.

The Air Force said the air defense was able to intercept almost half of a total of 26 missiles at night and early in the morning. The Russians used, among other things, six Iskander ballistic missiles, of which only one could be shot down in time.

According to Ukrainian authorities, an infrastructure object was hit in Lviv, in the west of the country. A total of around ten rockets were fired at the region alone, Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadowyj wrote on Telegram. Two people were injured and the windows in several residential buildings were broken due to the pressure wave. A school was also damaged.

One dead in attack in Kharkiv region

The Zaporizhia region in the southeast of the country also reported hits. According to preliminary information from the regional administration, one person was injured and an infrastructure object was damaged. Oleh Synyehubov, the governor of the Kharkiv region in northeastern Ukraine, reported a rocket hit in Chuhuiv. A 67-year-old woman was killed. Kharkiv, as a border region, is under attack almost every day – not only from rockets, but also from artillery and drones.

Hatched: territories occupied by Russia

There were also explosions in the Khmelnytskyi, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions. The military administration of Khmelnytskyi confirmed damage to civilian objects. Military Governor Filip Pronin said it hit a camp in the Poltava region, causing a fire to break out. There are no deaths or injuries.

“The enemy is attacking civilian infrastructure objects,” wrote the military governor of Dnipropetrovsk, Serhiy Lyssak, on his Telegram channel, but did not provide any information about possible damage. Ukrainian air defense had previously spotted cruise missiles in the region.

Attacks on Kyiv repelled

Kiev was also attacked, but according to the local military administration, it was able to intercept all rockets and cruise missiles. There was no damage or injuries, said military governor Serhiy Popko.

Since the invasion began almost two years ago, Russia has repeatedly attacked civilian targets in the hinterland of Ukraine. Energy systems are often the target. According to experts, the attacks serve to break Ukrainians’ will to resist.

Dead in Belgorod

A rocket attack is also reported from Russia. In the city of Belgorod, five people, including a child, were said to have been killed and 18 other people were injured. This was announced by regional governor Vyacheslav Gladkov on Telegram.

The Russian Defense Ministry said air defense systems shot down 14 missiles fired by Ukraine over the Belgorod region. The governor of the neighboring Kursk region, Roman Starovoit, said a shopping center and a school stadium were hit in the rocket attack. The city of Belgorod is located about 40 kilometers north of the Ukrainian border and has been the target of Ukrainian shelling on several occasions.
