Wages barely keep up with inflation, France-Uruguay match and Kim invites Putin

Did you miss the news this morning? We have put together a summary to help you see things more clearly.

For employees, the price increase should barely be offset in 2023. Salary increases are in fact expected at 4.5% on average this year, according to a survey published this Thursday by the recruitment firm PageGroup. A study by the LHH firm published at the end of August indicated that half of salaries in France will experience an increase of more than 4.7% in 2023 and that 93% of companies “have planned salary measures” this year. The increase in consumer prices, on the other hand, is expected at 5% on average for the whole of 2023, after 5.2% in 2022, according to INSEE. A particularly significant increase in the prices of food products (+11% year-on-year in August).

It’s match day for the XV of France. After the All Blacks, the team, largely reshuffled with Anthony Jelonch as captain, moves on to the second stage of its World Cup, this Thursday at 9 p.m. in Lille. On paper, the Blues, among the big favorites of the competition, have little to fear from the Uruguayans: in five participations in a World Cup, the 17th nation in the World Rugby rankings has only won three matches. However, the meeting should not be taken lightly so as not to turn into a trap. While waiting for the match, our journalist Nicolas Camus explains to you why this is a real event for the Hauts-de-France region, weaned from high-level rugby despite a rich history with this sport.

Moscow and Pyongyang display their idyll a little more every day. Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to go to North Korea at the invitation of its leader Kim Jong-un, currently traveling to Russia in particular to strengthen their military ties. For the moment, however, nothing has been officially communicated regarding a possible agreement for deliveries of military equipment to Russia in order to support its offensive in Ukraine. The United States nevertheless expressed its “concern” about this possible military cooperation. The American State Department thus indicated that the United States “will not hesitate” to impose new sanctions if necessary against the two countries.
