National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg reported sick after the DFB Women’s World Cup preliminary round exit. Media already speculated that she would not return to office. DFB President Bernd Neuendorf does not want to fuel these suspicions.

DFB President Bernd Neuendorf has speculations about an imminent replacement of the national soccer coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg was rejected. “I ask for your understanding, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg is ill. That requires respect and care that we not speculate about it,” said the head of the German Football Association on Tuesday evening in Dortmund on ARD. The TV broadcaster Sky had previously reported, citing its own information, that it was unlikely that the 55-year-old would return to her post after her recovery.

Neuendorf pointed out that he and the coach had had a lot of discussions after the disappointing exit in the World Cup group phase. Voss-Tecklenburg will present the results of this analysis after her recovery, the association head assured.

The national coach reported sick for the upcoming games in the Nations League in Denmark and against Iceland on September 22nd and 26th. She is temporarily represented by assistant coach Britta Carlson.

No survey about Voss-Tecklenburg’s whereabouts

On Tuesday evening, Carlson expressly contradicted the Sky information that she had conducted a survey among the national players as to whether they wanted to continue working with Voss-Tecklenburg. “The claim is completely baseless and calls into question my long-standing integrity as an assistant coach,” she said via the DFB. In consultation with the national coach, she spoke confidentially with players whose views should be incorporated into the World Cup analysis.

Regarding the national coach’s forced break, her husband Hermann Voss-Tecklenburg told the “Bild” newspaper: “The World Cup in Australia took a lot out of her. She came back from Australia already sick, she was mentally and physically weak.” The trainer is currently recovering.

Time is running out for the DFB. The Nations League is about tickets for the Summer Games in Paris in 2024. Only two European teams can qualify for the Olympics.
