Lava, smoke and destruction – the volcano Cumbre Vieja has kept the Canary Island of La Palma in suspense for almost three months.

So-called lava bombs rain down on the slope of the volcano.

Again and again new lava flows pave their way towards the sea. As well as destroying buildings, they also destroy roads, irrigation systems and other parts of the infrastructure.

According to the local government, the outbreak caused damage of more than 840 million euros.

Even if the activity is currently declining, an end to the eruption is currently not in sight, according to volcanologists.
