New role for Viola Davis: The Oscar winner will play the villain in the upcoming “Hunger Games” film.

In November 2023, “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, a new film in the “Hunger Games” series will be released in cinemas. It tells the history of the well-known story about the tribute played by Jennifer Lawrence (32) Katniss Everdeen. Oscar winner Viola Davis (57) could now be engaged for this prequel film, as the production itself announced on the official Instagram channel.

In “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” Davis becomes the villain Dr. Embody Volumnia Gaul, the boss of the so-called playmakers. dr Gaul controls and monitors the life-threatening Hunger Games from a control center, which are also the focus of the plot in the new film. Francis Lawrence, the director of the fifth Hunger Games film, revealed to industry magazine The Hollywood Reporter about the character played by Davis: “Dr. Gaul is as cruel as she is creative and as terrifying as she is impressive.”

Filming for the continuation of the successful series has been underway in Poland since June. Before Davis, “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage (53) and Jason Schwartzman (42, “The French Dispatch”) could be committed. 27-year-old Tom Blyth (“Billy the Kid”) will play the lead role of future President Coriolanus Snow. “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” is based on the novel of the same name by Suzanne Collins (60), who invented the world of Panem in her four novels to date.
