Vikings: Valhalla returns to Netflix with new episodes. Season two also offers plenty of adventure, intrigue and bloody battles.

A little less than a year ago, the “Vikings” spin-off “Valhalla” caused a sensation on the Netflix streaming service. After the end of the adventures of Ragnar Lodbrok, Lagertha and Co., “Vikings: Valhalla” is about a whole new generation of Vikings who are on the transition to Christianity. The historical action series is now returning to Netflix for its second season. This in turn consists of eight episodes. A third season has already been confirmed by Netflix and is expected to appear on the streaming service in the near future.

This is how the first season of Vikings: Valhalla ended

The premiere edition of “Vikings: Valhalla” ended with the great battle of Kattegat, at the end of which Olav (Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, 43) became the new ruler of the Viking town for a few minutes. The three protagonists Leif Eriksson (Sam Corlett, 26), Freydís (Frida Gustavsson, 29) and Harald (Leo Suter, 29) had to flee. In the eyes of many pagan Vikings, Harald in particular will have to answer for the fact that he sided with the Christians around Olav and Jarl Kåre (Asbjørn Krogh Nissen, 41).

The second season picks up right after these events. Leif, his sister Freydís and Harald have to leave their homeland as the defeated and find themselves on the run in Scandinavia. Showrunner Jeb Stuart revealed in advancethat the three heroes will have to leave “their comfort zones” in the new episodes.

However, Harald still thirsts to become the king of Norway. Harald actor Suter explained in advance about the romance of the character he played with Freydís Eiríksdóttir: “They are so good as a team, but at the same time there are forces and strong passions that drive them apart […]”. According to showrunner Stuart In Season Two, Freydís and Harald will embark on a “road trip” that will mark the beginning of an “incredible journey”.

Leif Eriksson, the third in the league, has gone down in real history books as the discoverer of America. Showrunner Stuart posed the question ahead of season two of Vikings: Valhalla, “What skills did he have that allowed him to get there? It can’t just be courage.” Stuart hinted that Leif may learn about “navigation” in the new season two episodes, which will lead to his big discovery later in the series.

New actors and their roles

Some new cast members have been confirmed for the second season of Vikings: Valhalla. The British actor Bradley James (39) is known, among other things, from the BBC series “Merlin – The New Adventures” (2008-2012). In the “Valhalla” sequel he embodies the new character Harekr, a pagan extremist among the Vikings who rules over the settlement of Jómsborg.

Actress Hayat Kamille, known from the Agatha Christie film “Death on the Nile” (2022), plays the astronomer Mariam in the second season of “Vikings: Valhalla”. From Constantinople she traveled to Novgorod to examine meteorites.

Marcin Dorociński (“The Queen’s Gambit”, 49) plays in the upcoming episodes of “Valhalla” Yaroslav the Wise, a warrior and ruler of Kievan Rus, which was also seen in the later seasons of the parent series “Vikings”.
