Video: Winter joy in Bavaria: jump into the Danube

STORY: In the beautiful, cold Danube… Winter swimmers in Neuburg an der Donau in Bavaria are very happy. After the Corona break, they were allowed to plunge into the floods again on Saturday. With self-made rafts and other original vehicles, they went four kilometers downstream from the Bittenbrunn barrage to Neuburg’s old town. Although temperatures around freezing did not cause hot flashes among the participants, wetsuits protected everyone from the severe cold. “Well, it was wonderful and it’s not cold. It’s wonderful, just the current until you get in, that’s a bit difficult and we already swim about eight to ten times. Except for Corona, we had to take a break .” “It was great today, I myself started for the first time when I was 12 years old.” “I’m here for the 45th time. Today we had to swim a little longer because the Danube didn’t have enough water.” The original costumes, with which the swimmers plunged into the cold water, also created a relaxed atmosphere. Similar to the floats in a carnival parade, self-built rafts on the Danube made fun of current politics. And at the end, in Neuburg, there was something to warm up from the inside.
