Video: Thousands in Haiti without drinking water

STORY: Thousands of people in Haiti have had little access to drinking water for days at temperatures of around 35 degrees Celsius. The water supply in the capital Port-au-Prince had largely come to a standstill in the past week. After days of violent protests against crime and rising prices – which also included shootings – the water suppliers stopped delivering drinking water. “Clean water is a problem – there is none. We use chlorine to make water potable, there’s just no potable water.” Eyewitnesses said many residents took advantage of a half-day truce to collect potable water and also cooking gas from distribution centers. The situation is exacerbated by an approaching storm. According to weather forecasts, tropical storm “Fiona” could lead to heavy rainfall in the coming days. That would further worsen the supply situation in Haiti.
